Recorded in October 1990 at the Banff Centre for the Arts, Banff, Alberta, with Gordon Monahan performing on a Blüthner concert grand piano. Early versions of Piano Mechanics were performed by Gordon Monahan beginning in 1982. In 1984, he performed Piano Mechanics at the CBC Young Composers Competition, winning first prize. The recording of that performance was released on vinyl LP in 1986.
