about

A collection of sound sculptures are installed for performances and installations in various spaces, and the sculptures are played by an interactive theremin. When the theremin is played, analog signals are converted to midi signals that control the playing of the mechanized sound sculptures. Long piano strings are divided into resonant sections that are played by small mechanical strikers, and a variable speed electric motor is dragged along a long piano string to activate slide harmonics. Water drops fall in rhythmic formations and land on amplified percussive plates. Long piano strings are stretched and released by a pneumatic air cylinder. Live video images showing close-up shots of these miniature actions are projected onto a backdrop screen, thus visually magnifying the sound-making actions in parallel to their audio amplification.
